Memory Wave
This piece grew out of earlier efforts with notes and canvas and represents my efforts to physically mimic the process of experience and memory. My creative practice is rooted in writing, and I began this project by gathering notes Iād written from roughly May 2024 through September 2024. I also painted a found canvas with white paint with bits of blue mixed in to mingle the white paper and blue ink that I usually write with. I then began to destroy my notes by tearing them into pieces. I then took these scraps of paper and coated them in paint and crumpled them onto the canvas in whatever form seemed to suit them. I layered these notes, torn them, painted them, and repeated the process in ways that felt organic to the moment and reflected whatever I felt like doing when I worked. The result is a canvas covered in a shape that I think of as a wave pattern.
